Regular Meeting

CAM Board of Education

Monday, April 11, 2022 6:30 p.m.

 

The CAM Community School District Board of Education held its regular meeting and public hearing on April 11, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the Superintendent’s office at the CAM High School in Anita. Present were Directors Todd McKee, Chuck Kinzie, Cara Murphy, Mike Plagman, and Julie Williamson, Superintendent Paul Croghan, and Secretary Lindsay Jahde, Principals, Barry Bower, and Larry Hunt. Principals Dominic Giegerich and James Brauer were absent.   Also in attendance were Katherine Becker, Michele Stokley, Cathy Prime, Brittany Honeck and Christa Wessling. 

 

President Todd McKee read the mission statement and opened the public hearings regarding the FY22/23 school calendar and FY22/23 budget at 6:30 p.m. No comments were heard or received. The public hearings were closed.    

 

President Todd McKee called the regular meeting to order and welcomed visitors. The agenda was approved.  The consent agenda to include the minutes of the March 14, 2022  regular board meeting, bills, financial reports applications to the Iowa Connections Academy received after the deadline, without good cause, or those denied because of lack of classroom space; as well as those denied due to the inability to provide services, denied applications received to open enroll out of CAM to Atlantic, received after the deadline without good cause, resignations received from Courtney Sargent- North Elem. 4th Grade Teacher, Kandy Schwan-HS Math, Jayanne De Young-North Elem Para, Angela Larson-HS English, Natasha Erickson-MS/S Elem Cook, Contracts- Trent Golz-JH Cross Country, Kendra Carlson-Co-Head JH Student Council, was approved. General Fund bills were $89,201.23, PPEL Fund bills $3,395.28, Nutrition Fund bills $21,644.44, SILO Fund bills $17,502.09, and Activity Fund bills $8,522.67. 

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS:  The principals shared written reports. Barry Bower, North Elem Principal advised that the spring concert held on March 29th was well attended and gave a special thanks to Hilary Nielsen, teachers and staff.  ISASP testing was held March 22nd through March 25th. The Conditions of Learning survey will be given to students 3-5th grade and information was sent home to parents so they can take as well. Larry Hunt, South Elem and MS Principal advised fifty two individuals traveled to Washington D.C. and New York in March.  Interviews for open positions are in process.  Mr. Bower highlighted important points on HS Principal, Dominic Giegerich’s (in his absence) written report giving special recognition to the Cougar Den grand opening, the entire digital media class and Mrs. Miller. The ceremony was a huge success and very well attended.  Superintendent Croghan gave a summary of the upcoming meeting agenda. 

 

The FY2022-2023 School calendar and budget were approved.  The amended FY2021-2022 school calendar was approved.  The list of graduating seniors from CAM CSD and the Iowa Connections Academy were approved pending all requirements are met.  The request for school transportation for out of state trips for the after-prom event and the senior trip were approved.  The 2022-2023 library services agreement was approved as presented.  Technology purchase in the amount of $313,826.25 was approved as presented.  Certified licensed staff that were not included in the original list of teachers eligible to receive the Governor’s retention bonus was approved as presented. Discussion was held regarding the sale of real property.     

Board comments included recognition of CAM alumni, Molly Venteicher’s success in track and field, Mady Mckee and Gabe Rouse’s success with All-State Speech, attendance of the “Super Board Meeting” by Julie Williamson and Mike Plagman, youth soccer participating in Atlantic, and the Cougar Den open house. 

 

The board adjourned at 7:35 p.m., on a motion from Mike Plagman, seconded by Chuck Kinzie.  Motion carried unanimously on a 5-0 voice vote.
