August 17, 2021 Board Meeting Minutes

The CAM Community School District Board of Education held its regular meeting on August 17, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in the Superintendent’s office at the CAM High School in Anita.  Present were Directors Gary Dinkla, Chuck Kinzie, Mike Plagman, Nick Kauffman, and Julie Williamson, Superintendent Paul Croghan, and Secretary Lindsay Jahde, Principals, Larry Hunt and Dominic Giegerich. Principals Barry Bower and James Brauer was absent. Multiple visitors were in attendance.

 

President Gary Dinkla called the meeting to order, read the mission statement and welcomed visitors.  The agenda was approved with no changes. 

 

The consent agenda, to include minutes of the July 12, 2021 board meeting, bills (with additions), financial statements, resignation received from Amanda Wheatley, MS/SELEM Library, Contracts for Roger Van Donselaar-6-12 Band/Vocal/Musical Coach, Kirk Kelloway, Para Educator H.S., Jayanne Deyoung, Para Educator NELEM, Rochelle Ferguson, Para Educator NELEM, Heather Vinsand, Para Educator NELEM, Patricia Grieshaber, 4HR Cook-South, Natasha Erickson, 7.5 HR Cook, South and Diane Brahms, 80% Title Teacher South, Open Enrollments, Applications to the Iowa Connections Academy received after the deadline, without good cause, or those denied because of lack of classroom space; as well as those denied due to inability to provide services, was approved.  General Fund bills were $146,980.20, Nutrition Fund bills $934.21, SILO Fund bills $15,587.93, PPEL Fund bills $56,640.16, Activity Fund bills $7,580.77, Management Fund bills $1,203.00, Scholarship Fund bills $1,000.00.    

 

President Dinkla asked if there was any comment from the public on the District’s Return to Learn Plan. No comments were heard. President Dinkla then received input from individuals that had requested to address the Board preceding the meeting with questions and concerns regarding the proposed Facility Upgrade process and communications.  President Dinkla also allowed additional comment from two visitors that had not requested to address the Board prior to the opening of the meeting.   


High School Principal Dominic Giegerich’s report noted that the District was represented well at the Cass Co Fair, CAM Speech and Debate is the only school in the state to reach the service marker, and included fall sport’s participation numbers. MS/South Elementary Principal Larry Hunt advised there are seven new teachers in the District for the 2021/2022 school year.  Superintendent Paul Croghan presented resignations and contracts, commented on the District’s Return to Learn Plan, board policy in regard to the legislative updates, bids for the vehicles, facility committee recommendation, as well as the school board election process. 

Board policies relating to the legislative updates were approved as presented.  The high bids for the black Chevy Suburban and the Ford Taurus were approved.  Other options for the disposal of the green Chevy Suburban will be explored and will include listing on the consignment sale in Massena with a minimum bid of salvage value.

 

Facility committee member, Chris Spieker presented the committee’s recommendation to the Board.  The Board voted to accept the committee’s recommendation to move forward with a bond referendum for a project that will improve school facilities in both Anita and Massena.  The proposed solution will re-align grade levels so that PreK-6th grades are located in Massena, and 7-12th grades are located in Anita.  Child care components will be considered in both communities. 

 

Discussion was held regarding the election process and individuals were directed to the board secretary for filing packets. 

 

The board adjourned at 8:25 p.m
