CAM Students Create ‘Relay for Life’ Video

Members of the Relay for Life committee asked the CAM Digital Media class to assist them in creating a video to honor survivors, care-givers, and committee members to be shown at the Relay for Life event that was planned for the summer of 2020.  Our students met with the committee in late November of 2019, with hopes of interviewing many of these people in the spring semester of 2020.  As we all know, COVID-19 hit and this project was put on hold.  Last fall, not knowing what our year would look like, we started discussing how we could make this project a reality, in spite of our challenges.  Abby Follmann was at the helm of the project and began organizing interviews once again.  There were a few others who helped with interviewing and opening the video camera as well, such as Alaina Abild, Cavan Murphy, Zoey Baylor, and Cade Ticknor.  These students worked very hard throughout this difficult year of social distancing and wearing our masks as we ventured out to make this project a reality.  Once all of the interviews were complete, and the pictures and videos of past Relay for Life events were found, Connor McKee, one of our video editors in the class, took on the project of putting it all together.  Connor and Abby worked many hours in class and during other downtimes in the school day to make this happen.  This project is especially meaningful, as we have incorporated one of our own CAM students, Walker Gettler’s cancer journey, into the video. His mother, Brandy Getter, along with his sister, Emily Wittrock, told their family’s story.

This video will be shown at the Relay for Life event on August 15, 2021, at the Atlantic high school.  We want to thank all of the cancer survivors, care-givers, and committee members for taking the time to share their stories with us, so that we can share them all with you.  Please join us on August 15, 2021!
