Cougars Wrap Up the Regular Season

The first game of the last week of regular season play for the Cougars was against the Paton-Churdan Rockets on February 8th. This game would also be the last regular season home game for the Cougars meaning, it was senior night. The Cougar boys who were honored for the night were Connor McKee, Ethan Arp, Wyatt Gettler, Walker Gettler, Michael Hill, and Peyton Jessen. The first quarter started strong for the Cougars with them holding a lead of 19-10. The Cougars only increased their lead with a score of 41-27. In the third quarter, the Cougars doubled the Rockets’ score with a score going into the fourth quarter, 60-30. When the score board finally hit 0:00 it was clear to see that one team came to play and one didn’t. The Cougars dominated with a final score of 63-42. The leading scorer was Colby Rich with 20 points.

Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders would be the Cougars’ opponent on February 9th. This game was close from the tip-off to the final buzzer. The first quarter the score was 16-12, the Cougars with a shaky lead. The second quarter would be the same with the Cougars’ lead being cut down to one point with a score going into halftime 23-22. The third quarter the Cougars still held the lead of 36-32.  With a final score of 49-40, the Cougars beat the Crusaders. The leading scorers for the Cougars were McKee and Rich with each having 21 points.

On February 12th, the Cougars went up against the Nodaway Wolverines. The first half was ugly for the Cougars with a score of 14-31, with the Wolverines in control of the game. The second half wasn’t any different with a final score of 49-27. This would mark the last regular season game. This isn’t how the Cougars wanted to go into the playoffs, but they still had success with a record of 13-8.
