Cougars Staying Strong with Conference Play Nearing the End By: Peyton Jessen

On January 28th, the Cougars went up against the Stanton Vikings in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars only scored nine points to the Vikings’ 15 in the first quarter. The Cougars brought it back in the second quarter with scoring 11 points while only holding the Vikings to eight making the score at half time 20-23. Stanton barely held the lead because of a last second bucket. Going into the second half, it was easy to see that the last second bucket from the Vikings didn’t get under the Cougars’ skin. They held the Vikings to five points in the third quarter. Going into the final quarter the score was 37-28, Cougars finally taking control of the game. The fourth quarter was no different, with the Cougars scoring 26 points putting the Cougars on top with a final score 63-45. Cougars’ leading scorer was Colby Rich with 23 points.

On January 30th, the CAM Cougars and the West Harrison Hawkeyes finally had their second face-off after this game had to be rescheduled three different times due to weather. The Cougars had a rough start to the game with only scoring three points in the first quarter while the Hawkeyes scored 13. In the second quarter, the Cougars were behind 16-29 going into halftime. The Cougars started closing the gap making the score going into the fourth quarter 29-36. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars closed the gap even more and at one point only being down two points. Unfortunately, the Cougars wouldn’t be able to clench the win and would lose 42-51.
