“Cruising” His Way Through Senior Year By: Ali Namanny

This week’s Senior Spotlight is Payton Jarrett, the son of Brianne Jarrett and Nathan Jarrett. Payton has two younger brothers, Beckham, who is seven, and Ryker, who is five. Payton’s three most important people in his life are his mother and his two grandparents. Coming into his senior year, he was most looking forward to graduating and no longer having to come to school, however, he says that he is really looking forward to prom since there was not one last year due to Covid-19. Prom isn’t the only thing that Covid has affected during Payton’s past year in high school. He says that he hates having to wear a mask and wouldn’t be opposed to having virtual school instead. He remembers a time when he came up with a very unique excuse about his homework. He says that he told the teacher that he had gotten into a wreck and the papers had flown out of the car. Although this doesn’t seem very believable or reasonable, he had gotten into a wreck the day before. After he graduates he would like to attend DMACC to become either an electrician or a mechanic. He says he would prefer doing something he enjoys rather than something he could do just for money, that way he will find his job enjoyable. His favorite memory from high school was when he would always mess around with his friends in classes, resulting in them getting in trouble. His favorite school lunch is the crispitos. He said they have always been pretty good, even at the school he had attended before CAM. The best advice he received was during his freshman year at his prior school. His science teacher told him, “If you don’t have to go to school, then don’t, and do the minimum to pass, you don’t have to be an A+ student.” The advice he would give to all the underclassmen would be not to fail any classes and to get your homework done. We wish you good luck in your future!
