CAM Digital Media Students Tackle the Impossible Atlantic Chamber of Commerce Mobile App -- Ready For Use!

Several CAM Digital Media students have completed a project that very few high school students have had the opportunity to do! They created a mobile app and published it to the Apple Store.  It’s been quite a journey, but they were able to see it through, all the way to the final and published product.

In October of 2018, the CAM Digital Media class took on a very difficult project with the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. Bailey Smith, Chamber Director, met with Mrs. Miller, Digital Media Facilitator, along with two AEA Digital Learning Specialists, Joni Ehm and Stephanie Lane, to discuss the possibilities of a working relationship between the CAM students and the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Smith indicated the need for a mobile app that would house pictures and contact information of businesses, upcoming Atlantic events, and a map locator of these businesses in the Atlantic area.

Three Digital Media students volunteered to work on this project; Whitney Holaday, Ethan Arp, and Jeremy Kopp. They worked tirelessly through the end of the 2018/2019 school year, gathering business information, storefront pictures, and contact information of over 180 businesses.  They included a map locator of each business, so it could be easily found by visitors to the area. They had hoped to publish the Chamber App to the Apple Play Store by the end of that school year, but soon realized how difficult and labor intensive the process of publishing a new app was. Jim Casey, the CAM Technology Director, as well as Doug Neiner, a local web developer from Massena, were recruited to help with this very difficult task. The students had hoped to finish the project during last school year, but then schools were dismissed in March, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Whitney Holaday, CAM Senior this year, spent time working this summer on the project to get more details worked out. Congratulations to Whitney for going above and beyond, to get the job done.  A huge thank you goes to Doug Neiner and Jim Casey for helping the students see this project to fruition.

With that being said, we are so excited to announce the Atlantic Chamber App is now ready for use. It can be found in the Apple App Store by searching for the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce App and downloading it to your Apple device. This is a free app for all to download.  It is not available for Android users at this time.

The CAM students, along with Mrs. Miller, would like to give a big thank you to Bailey Smith, Atlantic Chamber Director.  She has worked very patiently with the CAM students during this very extensive process. Her willingness to wait for the app to be completed is greatly appreciated!

Mrs. Miller stated,  “I am so proud of these kids for completing this highly technical and complicated project.  They went above and beyond to see it through to the end, when at times, it felt like it was too difficult to complete.  We are also very appreciative of Bailey Smith for her patience and support throughout this process, as well as our technical experts, Doug Neiner and Jim Casey!”
