The CAM Community School District Board of Education held a special, joint meeting with the Nodaway Valley CSD on May 7, 2019 in the media center at the H.S. in Greenfield.  Present were Directors Gary Dinkla, Chuck Kinzie, Nick Kauffman, and Todd McKee, Superintendent Casey Berlau and Secretary Lindsay Jahde, the Nodaway Valley Board of Directors, Secretary Amanda Summers, Trent Grundmeyer and Kevin Fiene with Grundmeyer & Assoc. as well as multiple visitors.  Director Julie Williamson arrived at 7:20 p.m.

Melissa Larson, President of the Nodaway Valley CSD Board of Directors called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., approved the agenda and welcomed visitors.

President Gary Dinkla read the CAM CSD mission statement and welcomed visitors.  A motion was made by Chuck Kinzie, seconded by Todd McKee to approve the agenda and carried on a 4-0 voice vote.

The board presidents introduced Mr. Trent Grundmeyer with Grundmeyer Leader Services.  Mr. Grundmeyer advised he was excited to help the districts find a Superintendent that meets their desired qualifications.  Mr. Grundmeyer introduced consultant, Dr. Kevin Finne, who will also be involved with the search process.

Mr. Grundmeyer presented an overview of the hiring process which includes solidifying a timeline for the hire, narrowing the benefits package, sending out a stakeholder survey for general feedback, identifying “desired qualifications” for the position and then solidifying the formal interview process.  Discussion was then held regarding the proposed timeline.  It was recommended that the stakeholder survey be sent out immediately through local newspapers, social media as well as through the districts internal process.  The application period is currently open with twelve applications already in the pool.  The district boards will host a joint, closed meeting on May 23, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. to review the candidate pool.  At that time, all candidates will be presented to the boards.  The boards will choose 5-8 semi-finalists and discuss the formal interview schedule.  The board will also select stakeholders to participate in the formal interview teams to include members from the community, administrators, board members, board secretary, teachers and students.

On May 28th at 6:00 p.m. the board members, board secretaries and the search consultants will conduct interviews by Google hangout with the semi-finalist, selecting 2-3 finalists.  The group will also solidify the formal interview process as well as select stakeholders for the formal interview teams.  On June 6th the board members, board secretaries, search consultants and interview teams will interview the finalists, analyze the stakeholder feedback and make an offer to the successful candidate.  Other business will include contract negotiations and a formal background check.

Discussion regarding benefits and contract negotiations was held.  A copy of the current contract will be shared among the members prior to the meeting scheduled on May 23rd so both boards can discuss in their individual board meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:51 p.m on motion by Todd McKee, seconded by Julie Williamson and carried unanimously on a voice vote.
