MINUTES

Special, Joint Meeting

CAM Board of Education

Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 7:00 P.M.

The CAM Community School District Board of Education held a special, joint meeting with the Nodaway Valley CSD on April 30, 2019 in the media center at the Middle School in Fontanelle.  Present were Directors Gary Dinkla, Chuck Kinzie, Nick Kauffman, Todd McKee and Julie Williamson, Superintendent Casey Berlau and Secretary Lindsay Jahde, the Nodaway Valley Board of Directors, Secretary Amanda Summers, as well as multiple visitors.

Melissa Larson, President of the Nodaway Valley CSD Board of Directors called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m., approved the agenda and welcomed visitors.

President Gary Dinkla read the CAM CSD mission statement and welcomed visitors.

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH PROCESS AND TIMELINES:  President Melissa Larson opened discussion on the superintendent position and presented information on four potential firms to help with the search. Discussion was held regarding the services of each of the firms.  Both Director Larson and Dinkla advised that they had visited with a representative from Grundmeyer Leader Services, one of the potential firms, and had positive comments to share. Their services include a stakeholder survey and it was noted by the visitors in attendance that this would be a valuable piece of the process.  It was agreed that it would be preferable to include representatives from both districts in the interview process.  Both districts agreed that timeliness was an important factor and the consensus was that the search moves forward as fast as can be. Discussion was held regarding sharing of costs for the search firm and both districts agreed it made sense to split them equally and include a pro-rate factor if one of the districts was not happy and decided to terminate the agreement after one year.

The Nodaway Valley CSD voted on the selection of Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search process for a shared Superintendent for their district, to share costs, not to exceed $10,000, with the CAM CSD and included language in regard to pro-rate of cost in the event the contract was terminated after one year.

President Gary Dinkla entertained a motion for the selection of a search firm for the Superintendent position at CAM CSD.  Motion by Todd McKee, seconded by Chuck Kinzie to select Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search for a shared Superintendent position with Nodaway Valley CSD and to share costs equally with a pro-rate factor of 25% total cost penalty in the event either party terminates after one year.  Motion carries on a 5-0 voice vote.

ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. on a motion by Todd McKee and seconded by Chuck Kinzie and carried unanimously on a voice vote.

These minutes are as recorded by the board secretary and subject to approval at the next regular board meeting.   The action items carried and the full text of the motions, policies and discussion are on file in the board secretary's office or on the district website www.CAMCougars.org
