Basketball Recap

The basketball season has officially come to an end. The Cougars ended with a 16-6 record. They made it to the second round of play offs, but lost, 57-62. When Coach Hodges was asked about all of the seniors, he replied, “Thomas Hensley was one of the best guards in 1A in the state. His talents will be greatly missed next year along with his great leadership and work ethic. His competitive drive is one that is unmatched and something I hope will be passed on to the younger guys. He is a part of the #1000pointclub. Nick Holste has grown as a player and really improved defensively during my two years of coaching. His ability and leadership will also be hard to replace. He has shown many of our younger posts how valuable it is for a big man to be able to step away from the basket and knock down shots. He is also a part of the #1000pointclub. Kaleb Venteicher is a kid that always gives you his best effort regardless of the situation. He was one of the smart players on this year’s team when it came to basketball intelligence. His work ethic and positive attitude is something to admire and we will miss it next year. Jordan McDuff had moments of greatness this year when we needed it. He fought through injury and grew in his knowledge of the game. We will miss his hard work and random confusing comments at times. Tyler Kopp missed his junior year, but we were glad to have him back out this year. It was hard to keep him from practicing even when he wasn’t supposed to be. Also, he was our one-man stat-keeping guru. Tyler’s attitude and enjoyment for basketball will be missed. Jack Heithoff would agree that basketball was not his best sport, but that would not stop him from giving 100% all of the time. He would do anything he was asked and he would never complain. He was always very coachable and did not make any excuses. Curtis Fuoss was always one who would cheer on his teammates. Curt always put the team first and enjoyed being part of it. He never saw a shot he did not like, just like Jordan and Jack.” The Cougars had a great season this year; we will miss the seniors greatly. We are excited to see what next year’s season will bring us.
