Anita Elementary Observes Earth Day 2010
Playground Equipment Dedicated & Grant for Benches Recognized
by Kay Stork
April 27, 2010
Anita Elementary students and staff dedicated the new playground equipment and recognized the receipt of eight new benches from a grant sponsored by the Iowa Grocers' Association on Earth Day, 2010. During April, third grade students organized a collection of 4,774 plastic grocery sacks to be recycled through the Iowa Grocers' Association. (Their original goal was to collect 1,500 bags.) Through a grant program entitled "Build with Bags", our school received eight 96% recycled benches to go along with the new playground equipment, which was recently completed. Students also spent part of Earth Day cleaning up the school grounds. Many thanks go out to all students, staff, community volunteers, parents, donors, elementary student council members, CAM FFA members, and others who made the playground project a reality.
