High School: Counselor

New Regents Admission Index

by Grace Kopp

October 24, 2007

Effective Fall Semester 2009, freshman applicants to the regents universities in Iowa will be held to the new Regent Admission Index (RAI) requirement. Each applicant will have and RAI score that will be based on the following equation:

(ACT composite score x2)

+(percentile class rank x1)

+(cumulative high school GPA x20)

+(number of cores courses completed x5)

RAI score

Note: for purposes of calculating the RAI, ACT composite score has a top value of 36 (SAT score will be converted to ACT composite equivalent); high school rank is expressed as a percentile, with 99% as the top value; high school GPA is expressed on a 4-point scale; and number of high school courses completed in the core subject areas is expressed in terms of years or fractions of years of study and only include courses in the subject areas of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language.

Students who earn an RAI score of at least 245 and who meet the minimum high school course requirements will automatically qualify for admission.  Students who earn less than a 245 RAI score and who meet the minimum high school course requirements may still be offered admission, but their applications will be reviewed on an individual basis.
